Fever Book comprehension activity

The book we read was called Fever written by Renata Hopkins
For this activity we had to fill out all of these text boxes once we were finished reading and add words definitions and the sentence that it was in. This is mine and once we were done with that we answered questions and added to the story heres mine. Enjoy!!

After reading the text, find five interesting words that have been used. Write each word in the first column, followed by their definition (use a dictionary to find these) and use them in a sentence to show that you understand the meaning of each word.

Word
Definition
Sentence (Underline the word)
Rigid
Unable to bend or be forced out of shape. Not flexible
But at night, lying rigid in bed, she’d feel
like all the ghosts in the world were coming to
prove her wrong.
Tuberculosis
An infectious bacterial disease characterised by the growth of nodules tubercles in the tissues especially the lungs.
“contribution” before explaining that the camp was originally a sanatorium for people with tuberculosis.
Sanatorium
An establishment for the medical treatment of people who are convalescing or have a chronic illness.
a sanatorium for people with tuberculosis.
“Did they really get sent there to die?”
Carly asked.
Triumph
A great victory or achievement.
When Carly opened her eyes, the girl was leaning over the bed. Her face shone
in triumph.

Answer the following questions in full sentences:

  • How do we know that Carly is unwell? She was sick with a very sore throat

  • What part of the text is written by the ghost? When the mum said I knew you were looking forward to milking the cows but the ghost said that she had already done it before.

  • Where was the class going on camp? To a farm

  • Before it was a farm, what was the place used for?  A hospital

  • What does the ghost girl want? I have no idea maybe to be a alive girl again?

  • What does the writer do to show us whether Carly is telling the story or the ghost? When Carly was in the car her reflection was the ghost.

Plan and write a paragraph that follows on from the story. What could happen next? Your paragraph must include the characters that have already been introduced and be at least 8 sentences long!

When her mother arrived later that evening, Carly was asleep, and they decided
not to wake her. By morning, the fever had broken, and Carly was well enough to be
bundled up and helped out to the waiting car. Carly’s mother supposed she must be
disappointed to be leaving camp early. “I know you were looking forward to milking
a cow,” she said.
“No. I’ve done it before.”
Carly’s mother, unlocking the car, was struck by the sound of her daughter’s voice.
It must be the sore throat, she thought – but for a moment, it hadn’t sounded like
Carly at all.
“Are you sure? I don’t think I remember that. Anyway, another time.” She helped
Carly into the back seat and tucked her sleeping bag around her. “There you go,
sweetheart. Are you feeling alright?”
Carly nodded. Her throat still hurt, but it was nothing. Not compared with the
powerful, steady beat of her heart; to her lungs breathing in the sweet, spring air.
There was nothing to be afraid of now… ((my continuing part now))

As Carly was in the car she was just staring at her reflection looking all drowsy and ill, Her mother pulled over to the side of the road and looked at Carly.
A few seconds later she said Carly are you alright? You look very tired, do you need anything. Carly continued staring at her reflection ignoring her mother. Her mum turned back to the steering wheel and continued to drive “alright then.. I'll just continue driving she said If anythings wrong Carly please tell me. Carly turned over to her and slowly nodded and then turned back looking outside the window at her reflection. The mother was just thinking about how odd Carly is acting and thinking if something happened she also thought that's not how Carly usually acts and that she should probably get rest. Her mother then said Carly when we get home ill get some medicine is your throat doing alright? Carly nodded and pulled her sleeping back up more covering her neck and leaned on the window staring at it. Then the car pulled up at the drive way. Her mother said Carly was here and helped her out of the car. You go to your room. I'll get you some medicine Carly nodded and headed to her room but went to the bathroom staring at her reflection she then heard footsteps and ran to her room and hopped in bed. Carly? Carly are you alright! Her mother said. Carly nodded. Get better her mother would give Carly medicine. Carly took the medicine and water and had the medicine then would drink some water. After a few years Carly continued acting silent and her parents were confused for years until they found out it wasn't Carly.. It was the ghost girl. From then on their  life was pretty bad knowing their little girl wasn't the same anymore.

Fox report. Information report on foxes.

The Tiny Fennec Fox Is All Ears | HowStuffWorksFox reportSciblogs | Book review: How to Tame a Fox
Introduction -  Have you ever liked fox’s? Well I have and I wish to have a pet fox one day. There are many breeds of foxes, There are actually about 37 breeds of foxes but there are only 12 that belong to the genus of true foxes.

Paragraph 1: Types of Foxes
The 12 types of foxes that actually belong to the genus of true foxes are Arctic fox, Fennec fox, Pale fox, Blanford's fox, Cape fox, Corsac fox, Tibetan Sand fox, Swift fox, Kit fox, Ruppell's fox, Bengal fox, Red fox. Those are the main 12 true foxes and those are the foxes I'll be talking about! The red  fox is actually the most common known fox because that's the fox your most likely to see. You're most likely to find red foxes in Grasslands deserts, mountains forests and suburban areas Red foxes also have large up-right ears. And their hearing is so good they can hear a watch ticking 40 yards away! The red fox will continue to hunt even when its tummy is full. It stores the extra food under leaves, snow or dirt, to be eaten later. The male red fox is called a dog, while the female is called a vixen. An arctic fox is known as a white fox. The arctic fox has the warmest pelt of any animal found in the arctic. Enduring temperatures as 70 degrees. An arctic fox is a member of the canidae family of animals. The arctic fox is found in the arctic. I mean how could you not know that? Fennec foxes dwell in the sandy Sahara and elsewhere in North Africa. Their nocturnal habits help them deal with the searing heat of the desert environment, and some physical adaptations help as well. Their distinctive, batlike ears radiate body heat and help keep the foxes cool. That is just 3 types of the foxes, I could go on and on about them but i'll keep it like that there's more paragraphs to read anyways!

Paragraph 2: Predators
Topic Sentence: In the wilderness the cub foxes can fall prey to eagles. Adult foxes are prey to Coyotes grey wolves bears and mountain lions are very common prey to adult foxes. But red foxes also have another predator ((and other foxes)) their predator is humans, Us humans hunt down foxes for their fur but I stand against that. Humans hunt down foxes and kill them in large numbers of pests. I personally think foxes don't deserve that because imagine us as foxes and getting killed and hunted down for trying to survive and being pests and for our fur, How do you think we would feel then? Why would you even kill a helpless animal helping its family survive. We aren't their only predator but we can be a main predator.

Paragraph 3: Facts about foxes
Topic Sentence: When you see a group of foxes it is actually called a shulk or a leash. If you see a fox with whiskers on their legs and face that is just to help them navigate where they're going. Have you ever seen a cat retract their claws, Well grey foxes can do the same thing as cats can and retract their claws! Adult foxes dig underground to keep them safe from predators and keep their cubs safe. Y’know cats pupils all narrowly to help them navigate their way through night well foxes have a similar thing and have pupils like cats to help them see at night.

I love foxes and I hope these facts have made you like them too. Do you have a favourite fox? I dont I love them all. Foxes have a lot of breeds and types but only 12 are true fox breeds.14 Fascinating Facts About Foxes | Mental Floss
