Story

Hi there bloggers. This is my story we had to write. A couple weeks ago we had to watch three short films about these weird different things. The first one was about a video game thing. The second one was about this giant dinosaur. And the last one was about these two men walking up a mountain with a golden statue. I did the last one aka the one where the two men were walking up the giant mountain. This activity was really one because we watched the video of the one we were going to do then wrote about it. Have you ever written your own story? Do you like writing stories? I hope you have a great day and I hope you enjoy!

My dog Bella

This is all about my dog Bella

Her breed is a american staffy. She is 10 1/2 years old. She is medium sized. Bella is a guard dog. Shes very friendly and sweet. She may look "Scary" If you see her at my gate barking but when you get to know her she is very kind and cute. When her ears are down that means that shes not protective. But when her ears are up it means shes going protective and tries to protect us and bark at someone whos coming by. Bella does attack other dogs if they come to close or do something to annoy her. She is a very good dog and I love her very much.

This was her a few years ago when she was a puppy

This is her last year

Fever Book comprehension activity

The book we read was called Fever written by Renata Hopkins
For this activity we had to fill out all of these text boxes once we were finished reading and add words definitions and the sentence that it was in. This is mine and once we were done with that we answered questions and added to the story heres mine. Enjoy!!

After reading the text, find five interesting words that have been used. Write each word in the first column, followed by their definition (use a dictionary to find these) and use them in a sentence to show that you understand the meaning of each word.

Word
Definition
Sentence (Underline the word)
Rigid
Unable to bend or be forced out of shape. Not flexible
But at night, lying rigid in bed, she’d feel
like all the ghosts in the world were coming to
prove her wrong.
Tuberculosis
An infectious bacterial disease characterised by the growth of nodules tubercles in the tissues especially the lungs.
“contribution” before explaining that the camp was originally a sanatorium for people with tuberculosis.
Sanatorium
An establishment for the medical treatment of people who are convalescing or have a chronic illness.
a sanatorium for people with tuberculosis.
“Did they really get sent there to die?”
Carly asked.
Triumph
A great victory or achievement.
When Carly opened her eyes, the girl was leaning over the bed. Her face shone
in triumph.

Answer the following questions in full sentences:

  • How do we know that Carly is unwell? She was sick with a very sore throat

  • What part of the text is written by the ghost? When the mum said I knew you were looking forward to milking the cows but the ghost said that she had already done it before.

  • Where was the class going on camp? To a farm

  • Before it was a farm, what was the place used for?  A hospital

  • What does the ghost girl want? I have no idea maybe to be a alive girl again?

  • What does the writer do to show us whether Carly is telling the story or the ghost? When Carly was in the car her reflection was the ghost.

Plan and write a paragraph that follows on from the story. What could happen next? Your paragraph must include the characters that have already been introduced and be at least 8 sentences long!

When her mother arrived later that evening, Carly was asleep, and they decided
not to wake her. By morning, the fever had broken, and Carly was well enough to be
bundled up and helped out to the waiting car. Carly’s mother supposed she must be
disappointed to be leaving camp early. “I know you were looking forward to milking
a cow,” she said.
“No. I’ve done it before.”
Carly’s mother, unlocking the car, was struck by the sound of her daughter’s voice.
It must be the sore throat, she thought – but for a moment, it hadn’t sounded like
Carly at all.
“Are you sure? I don’t think I remember that. Anyway, another time.” She helped
Carly into the back seat and tucked her sleeping bag around her. “There you go,
sweetheart. Are you feeling alright?”
Carly nodded. Her throat still hurt, but it was nothing. Not compared with the
powerful, steady beat of her heart; to her lungs breathing in the sweet, spring air.
There was nothing to be afraid of now… ((my continuing part now))

As Carly was in the car she was just staring at her reflection looking all drowsy and ill, Her mother pulled over to the side of the road and looked at Carly.
A few seconds later she said Carly are you alright? You look very tired, do you need anything. Carly continued staring at her reflection ignoring her mother. Her mum turned back to the steering wheel and continued to drive “alright then.. I'll just continue driving she said If anythings wrong Carly please tell me. Carly turned over to her and slowly nodded and then turned back looking outside the window at her reflection. The mother was just thinking about how odd Carly is acting and thinking if something happened she also thought that's not how Carly usually acts and that she should probably get rest. Her mother then said Carly when we get home ill get some medicine is your throat doing alright? Carly nodded and pulled her sleeping back up more covering her neck and leaned on the window staring at it. Then the car pulled up at the drive way. Her mother said Carly was here and helped her out of the car. You go to your room. I'll get you some medicine Carly nodded and headed to her room but went to the bathroom staring at her reflection she then heard footsteps and ran to her room and hopped in bed. Carly? Carly are you alright! Her mother said. Carly nodded. Get better her mother would give Carly medicine. Carly took the medicine and water and had the medicine then would drink some water. After a few years Carly continued acting silent and her parents were confused for years until they found out it wasn't Carly.. It was the ghost girl. From then on their  life was pretty bad knowing their little girl wasn't the same anymore.

Hedgehog adaptation

Hedgehogs: Adorable, But Do They Make Good Pets? | HowStuffWorksThis guy is so cute!! : Hedgehog
Hedgehog Adaptation

Hedgehogs are animals that can be a pet but can be a dangerous
scared animal, hedgehogs feel threatened quite a lot and have this
amazing ability to curl into a ball so they won't get attacked and
try to protect themselves. Hedgehogs are adventurous animals and
love exploring, they are very good at camouflaging into their
natural habitat.

A hedgehog's behavioural adaptation is to camouflage and to
curl in a ball. Hedgehogs have an ability to blend into their grass
surroundings and the mud and leaves, Hedgehogs do blend in quite
well to their natural surroundings. Hedgehogs have spikes that are
coloured like some of the leaves and the grass and mud and the ground
of their natural surroundings to blend in so they don't get attacked and
so their predator can't see them as easily. Hedgehogs colours make
them camouflage into their surroundings when their predator comes
they will lay in their curly ball and not move a muscle. When a
hedgehog feels safe it will be able to be touched sort of but as soon as
it feels threatened it will curl into a ball protecting itself with its
amazing prickly spikes. Hedgehogs feel threatened even when you
walk up to them. If a hedgehog curls into a ball, don't touch it or try
holding
it, it will make it feel more threatened. If a hedgehog feels
threatened it will stay still in a spiky ball not moving an inch.

Hedgehogs have structural adaptations.  They have very sharp spikes
to protect themselves from their predators when they roll into a prickly
ball.  The spikes prick those predators who try to attack the hedgehog.
Hedgehogs have a full back of their sharp pointed spines, If a
Hedgehog gets attacked or feels threatened by something they
will curl into a very prickly pointy ball that will keep away most
predators, Hedgehogs usually sleep in the position in a curled ball not
moving during day and then they awaken to search for their food at
nighttime. Hedgehogs rely on their sense of smell and vibration in the
ground because their eyesight is kind of weak.

Some hedgehogs have a physiological adaptation to some venom of
certain animals. The hedgehogs have an ability to be immune to the
venom of certain animals, it allows them to eat small venomous snakes
and arthropods. If some certain hedgehogs see a object that produces a
unfamiliar smell that the hedgehog doesn't recognise it will lick the
object and and form a frothy paste inside its mouth. The hedgehog
then uses its tongue to spread the paste over the it’s spines. It is thought
to camouflage the hedgehogs natural scent and its meant to put off
their predators who will often avoid the new unknown substance.

Hedgehogs have very interesting adaptations I think they are very
cute and very smart little critters, Hedgehogs have a beautiful spines
and are such cute animals!

Kiwi report adaptations

Kiwi adaptations

Kiwi’s are a Flightless bird that is native to New Zealand, it is a flightless bird just like an ostrich but it's still counted as a bird. Kiwis are very populated in New Zealand, Kiwis have very long beaks to help them sense food moving around in the ground, They are nocturnal and have mammal-like features, it makes them very unique.

A kiwi has two main behavioural adaptations which are being nocturnal and flightless.

Before humans arrived there were no land mammals that preyed on birds which is why they didn't fly. Flying takes away a lot of the birds energy and with no land mammals being on earth trying to prey on the birds they could just walk around and do their own thing without worrying about being attacked. Since people arrived in the kiwi’s land the forest floor has become a place of threat for them.

A kiwi has some structural adaptations to suit its habitat.

Kiwis have whiskers to help them find their way around in the darkness. They also have an exceptional sense of smell because this helps kiwi locate food beneath the soil. Kiwis' beaks do more than just smell it helps them sense where their prey is when it's moving.

Some of Kiwis' adaptations no longer work since humans arrived in New Zealand. This is because with humans came many land mammals like rats and stoats which became predators for kiwi. They are also nocturnal just like kiwi. Kiwis used to be safe and be able to roam around on the forest floor but now they can't because that is also where the threats of rats and stoats are.

Kiwi’s developed some structural and behavioural adaptations many years ago to survive. Sadly many of them no longer work due to the arrival of pests like stoats and weasels when pakeha came to New Zealand. This means that many of our kiwi are now endangered.

Mawhera Movie screening.

ABOUT: 2019. Welcome, This year my class has entered in the Mawhera Movie screening competition. We did our theme about mamaku highlights. Last week we went to the regent theatre to see the other videos that were the top picks at schools. Part of other schools went but our whole school went.  The videos  were all so cool but I have a favourite and its the first one we watched. It was about a robber and cops catching the robber.

QUESTIONS: I think we did everything well except for how loud we were. Next time we could try to be louder so we can hear each other.  My favourite entry was the robber one at the start because they just did it so well and the techniques they used we're the slow motion.

Writing

WALT: Write a persuasive piece of writing

Ban plastic

Did you know that if you throw plastic out on the streets
that could go through the drains, and come out into the
ocean and harm the sea life. I personally think that if
you have plastic or rubbish you should put it in the bin
instead of throwing it out and probably having a 50%
chance of killing poor animals. I'm sure you know that
if you throw out rubbish it can go into drains and into
the sea and sea animals will eat it.

My first reason is because, if you love animals, the
sea, and nature, you can simpally harm that if you
throw out rubbish, Did you know Thousands of
seabirds and sea turtles, seals and other marine
mammals are killed each year after ingesting plastic
or getting entangled in it.

Image result for What harm plastic can do to the animals in the oceanImage result for What harm plastic can do to the animals in the ocean

My second reason is if you love animals or marine
creatures / animals, did you know that 100,000
marine creatures a year die from plastic entanglement
and these are the ones found. Approximately 1 million
sea birds also die from plastic.

Image result for What harm plastic can do to the animals in the ocean
My third reason is because if you drop rubbish it can
wash away into the sea, or in trees and an animal
could see it and may think its food and they will eat
it thinking its food, the plastic they eat can get stuck
in their mouth and they will die, since your not
supposed to eat plastic.

If you throw away rubbish on the streets its like
throwing away our planet.

A fact is that, Tens of thousands of whales, birds,
seals and turtles are killed every year from plastic
bag litter in the marine environment as they often
mistake plastic bags for food such as jellyfish.
Plastic bags, once ingested, cannot be digested
or passed by an animal so it stays in the gut. You
do agree, Right?

Animals are like children, keep them safe and alive,
don't throw out rubbish to harm them.

Image result for Quotes about animals and rubbish

When you throw out plastic on the streets it goes out into the drain into the sewers into the sea, and kills 99% of sea animals, I personally think you should encourage people to stop throwing out rubbish, put your rubbish in the bin, Help the sea life! Please look at this link to help the sea life! Link to help the sea life!
